Welcome to Churchill Alternative!
Churchill Alternative is so much more than a school. We are a community of caring staff, students, and families! We strive to create a safe and inclusive climate where all of our community members feel welcome, respected, and valued.
Our school code is:
Take Care of Yourself,
Take Care of Each Other,
Take Care of This Place
We are a team of approximately 180 students and 30 staff. Our relatively small size allows staff to build connections and really get to know our students and support them on their individual journey of student achievement and well-being. This year we are looking forward to the re-introduction of Tree families. These beloved multi-age groupings help foster collaboration and build community at Churchill..
We value and are proud of the partnerships that have been forged between our staff and families. Open communication between home and school is vital in supporting our students and keeping families aware of their child’s progress. Many of the special events and activities that take place within the school and community would not happen without the combined efforts of our staff, our active School Council (CASC) and many volunteers.
If you are new to the Alternative program, you should know that Alternative schools are similar to other schools in the OCDSB in that we teach the Ontario Curriculum and follow the same assessment, evaluation and reporting requirements. How we differ from other programs is through intentional ways that we implement and embed the 7 Tenants. The Alternative Elementary Program is based on a concept of student centered learning. Our dedicated staff embrace learning opportunities and continue to build their practice to best meet the needs of each learner in the classroom. At Churchill, we are devoted to bringing the alternative philosophy alive in the classroom and throughout the school.
