Principal’s Message: Week of October 23 – 27, 2017
Posted on 01/09/2018

Dear Churchill Families,

Here are some updates and reminders for this week:

Character/Anti-bullying workshops: The Be Your Best Workshops for students in grades 1-6 have begun today. These workshops are focusing on self-esteem, integrity, anti-bullying and positive relationships, conflict resolution, and leadership. We are asking for $5.00 per student to help offset the costs. Please make any cheques out to Churchill Alternative School.

School website: The OCDSB has begun the migration of all school websites to the new platform. The new Churchill Alternative website is set to go live on October 30th, at which point the temporary site of http://www.churchillalternativeschool.com will close and all information from it integrated into the new site. I’m looking forward to the increased functionality of the site to allow for easier flow of information from school to home.

Online payments: In the new year we will be adopting an online function for making payments to the school. Things like field trips, presentations, etc. can be paid for using SchoolCash, and should make it easier for families to make any payments to schools, and for schools to track it. More information will be coming soon.

Progress reports for grades 1-6 will be going home on Thursday, November 9th. The progress reports are not a full report card, and are a vehicle for teachers to provide families with initial feedback on curricular areas. Feedback is reported as either “Progressing Very Well”, “Progressing Well”, or “Progressing With Difficulty”, with some curricular areas elaborated on in the comment section. The area for Learning Skills, as per our alternative tenets around intrinsic motivation, are typically left blank on parent copies. If you would like a copy of the progress report with Learning Skills marks, please let the school know before November 2nd.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Take good care,
Erin
