Wacky Weather greetings to all!

It’s been a wild weather week to keep us on our back to school toes! Crazy snow and now this rain – every morning’s outdoor wardrobe choice has been different! With these challenges in mind, and “snow day” school bus cancellations on top of everything, mornings can be a bit harried for families…just a gentle reminder that we have a safe schools route that needs to be maintained to ensure everyone’s safety!  It’s recognized that we don’t have a fabulous amount of parking but we are asking that parents do not stop, double-parked, on Edison or Ravenhill to let their children out for safety reasons. Please also be mindful that while there is a small area on Ravenhill next to the staff parking lot to “stop”, there is no parking allowed so you can’t get out and accompany a child to the school yard.  Extra patience and diligence, especially during inclement weather, is important to keep everyone safe and arriving at school in a timely fashion.

Tuesday, January 16@7pm – CASC meeting with a focus on the playground renewal (Babysitting provided)

Thursday, January 18 – Deadline for Equator Coffee orders for this month

Friday, January 19@ 6:15pm – Churchill Movie Night presents “Despicable Me 3”

Monday, January 22 – Deadline for Snowhawks Ski program sign up.

 

Hot Lunches Program

Orders for Term 2 Hot Lunches are ongoing (except milk; orders are now closed). Term 2 runs from January until March break. Orders can be placed here.

 

There are no new changes to the Hot Lunches program this term. 

 

Info about food:  Food orders close February 28th.  Additions/deletions and flavour changes can be made on food and smoothie orders up to 4 days before the menu date.  Any credits will remain on your account for Term 3.

 

If you have a balance on your account from last term, please pay with your Term 2 order.  Should you have a problem making a purchase on Paypal, please contact us and we can arrange to accept a cheque.

 

Kindergarten Information Session

Spread the word! Tuesday, January 16, 2018 is Churchill’s OCDSB Kindergarten Information session, 4:30pm. This session is a general overview of the kindergarten program being offered by the OCDSB. Prospective parents, whose child will be turning 4 by December 31, 2018, are welcome to attend. A more site-specific session pertaining to Churchill will occur later in the spring. 

Equator Coffee Fundraiser

Churchill Alternative School has partnered with Equator Coffee Roasters to sell a variety of coffee and tea, as well as Camino brand hot chocolate, chocolate bars, and baking supplies.  All products are fair-trade and organic.  Equator is donating a very generous 20-30% of all of our purchases back to Churchill.

Orders for this fundraiser will be placed every month.  The next ordering deadline is Thursday, January 18.  Please support Churchill, and go to
ChurchillAlternative.HotLunches.net to buy your fair-trade, organic coffee, tea, and chocolate products.  Order forms are also available outside the office.  Your purchases will be delivered to your child's backpack the following week.

Churchill Movie Night

 

Friday, January 19 featuring Despicable Me 3! Doors open at 6:15 pm; movie starts at 6:30 pm. (Adult accompaniment required).

Raffle tickets are $2 at the door; Pizza $2:50, GF Pizza $ 3, Baked Goods $0.50, Popcorn $1, Drinks $1.

Many volunteers are needed to make this event run smoothly. If you are not able to attend in person, please consider dropping off a baked goods contribution. Please sign up here.

 

 Come in your jammies, bring your pillows and blankets and snuggle in for a cozy and fun movie night!

 

 

Snowhawks Ski Program

 

Snowhawks Ski and Snowboard School is offering Churchill Alternative students in grades 4 to 6 a four-day, after-school ski and snowboard program. The first outing isThursday, February 8, 2018, and the program then continues February 15, 22 and March 1. Two trips each to Vorlage and Mt Cascades will provide plenty of variety. Participants are welcome to register for lift tickets and motor coach travel only, or may add on lessons and/or equipment rental as desired. Coaches will leave the school at dismissal, and return to school at 9:00 PM. Deadline for registration is January 22, although space may fill before the deadline. Info-sheets have been handed out to students via backpack mailer. Registration is now open online at registration.snowhawks.com.
