Hello Churchill Families!

I hope you are all surviving the roller coaster that is winter so far. Hard to believe we are in to February already.

Things to put on your radar please:

Kindergarten registration is in full swing!! If you know any families in our catchment who will have children turning 4 by December 31, 2018, please let them know they can register at Churchill Alternative! While we accept registrations at any time, the earlier we have any registrations for next year the better as it impacts our staffing and school organization. We want to avoid any disruptions due to reorganizations in September if at all possible. *Please note that families may now also register online*. School tours are being run Thursdays at 8:15am for prospective families, thanks to members of our School Council!

Cross boundary transfers will be accepted between February 5-20, 2018. Anyone applying for a transfer for next year must register their child(ren) at their home school, and drop off a cross boundary transfer application form at the school they wish their child(ren) to attend. Responses to applications will go out by the beginning of March. Any applications received after February 20, 2018 will be denied and marked late - they will be reviewed again in June. If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to call the school.

School Cash Online is a system where families may pay for field trips, school fees, etc. online, without having to send cash or write cheques. This system is set to go live at our school February 2nd, and more information on how to register for it and use it will be going home to families shortly. In the meantime, families may continue to pay as usual during the transition.

A few gentle reminders:

- Due to the tremendous amount of planning that goes in to organizing a class field trip, and due to board policies on adult supervision ratios, we require field trip permission forms into the school at least 48 hours (2 school days) prior to the field trip. By accepting late forms we risk skewing our supervision ratios which becomes a safety issue for our students. We understand that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that we will consider on a case-by-case basis, but overall we appreciate your understanding with this general "rule of thumb".

-Punctual and regular attendance is critical to a child's success in school, and models for children that school is an important place to be. If there are circumstances that are impeding your child being on time, or attending regularly, we are here to help. Letters outlining student attendance patterns will be sent to some families in an effort to highlight the importance of regular attendance, and we are happy to support anyone who may require it. Please note that regular attendance is an expectation under the Education Act, and is the responsibility of the parents to ensure.

As always we are open to questions, comments, or feedback.

Take good care,
Erin
